Assi Rahbani, the policeman, wanted to become a composer and was sure that Fairuz would be successful. Thus Fairuz and Assi fell in love with each other. On a certain spring day in 1953, Assi proposed to Fairuz, who was 18, and she said yes. The engaged couple got married in the summer of 1954. At 20, Fairuz gave birth to their son Ziad.
